Last weekend January 2010
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Another deer season has come and gone and as always it was a great season at El Capote. Only 2 deer were taken this season so we need to step it up next season. Tio Beto, Cousin Bert, Tio Fito, Tio Sammy and Cousin Al showed up to close up the season. We got rained out Saturday morning but hunted Saturday afternoon. Bert missed a hog at the hill and Al missed a hog at Ronnie's blind. Sad but true but at least they are moving and that is always good. Tio Beto killed a spike Saturday. Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to spring turkey come April. Till next season....

Zapata 10 ptr!
Thursday, January 07, 2010
Here are a couple of photos of the 10 point buck Tio Fito killed at Ron's Zapata lease. Tio Fito killed it late Monday evening. It has a 21 inch outside spread and a 19 1/2 inch inside spread.
It's the largest deer Tio Fito has ever killed. Ron says its the largest deer killed on this lease so far. Congratulations to Tio Fito hopefully we get to see the antlers soon!

December 12th weekend
Tuesday, December 15, 2009
Roly, Bert, Tio Fito and Cousin Al went out this past weekend with no luck. We did see deer but no one took a shot. Bert did not get a shot at an 8 pointer and Roly saw a spike. The weather was wet Friday and into Saturday. We went on a walk during the day and found arrow heads and petrified wood. We also found where water collects when it rains. We have lots of land that we never see since we mostly follow the roads. Sunday was a very slow morning. We all had a great time around the campfire and hopefully we get to do it again very soon.

Our family would like to congratulate Roly and Cindy on their wedding. We all were there and it
was a beautiful ceremony. Everyone had a great time and we wish them the best on their new life together. We will of course have a drink in their honor this weekend at El Capote. Congrats!

Opening weekend 2009
Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Well opening weekend has come and gone but it was another great opening weekend at El Capote Ranch. All the tios, cousin Ron and Cousin Al were there for the partners weekend. We had good times and good food. Friday night we attended a wild game dinner at George and Judy's house on top of the mountain. The view there is amazing and we got a chance to meet and talk to a lot of the fellow hunters who own property in the area. We also got to see the air life helicopter which will hopefully be available to us soon in case of emergencies. Saturday morning was good and several bucks and lots of doe were seen. Cousin Ron shot an 8 pointer off of his blind in the morning which was under the feeder. More doe were seen in the afternoon and Sunday was rather slow and we did not see much. The 8 pointer was the only deer killed this weekend. Cousin Al and Ron went out Saturday night for hogs but only managed to scare a big boar away (Probably Ron's fault). Cousin Ron did see 4 axis crossing into our property on his way out Sunday. A great time was had by all and we look forward to the rest of the season and hopefully more family members will be able to join us this year at El Capote Ranch.

We had another great weekend at the ranch for the last weekend of bow season. We hunted Saturday morning but had 2 feeders not working and no one saw anything. The rest of the weekend was spent working on feeders, setting up a new blind in between the cabin and Tio Pepe's blind and trimming around blinds. We all worked in preparation for opening weekend in 2 weeks. Everything should be up and running and ready for us to go and hopefully relax without having to fix something!

Opening weekend for bow season 2009
Monday, October 05, 2009
Tio Fito, Tio Pepe, Tio Sammy and Cousin Al were all at the ranch for opening archery season. It was a great weekend filled with fun and rain. We hunted Saturday morning and Cousin Al saw a young axis doe on the hill and Tio Fito saw an 8ptr at Ron's but was not able to get a shot. Tio Sam hunted a great pop up blind at Tio pepe's. We are putting up a new blind in between the cabin and Tio Pepe's blind. We all had a great time playing poker this weekend and the competition was great! We look forward to a great season this year. Below are various photos of things we did this weekend. Lots of work was done getting feeders going and as always the food
was great and the memories even better.

2007/08
Tuesday, August 04, 2009
2007/08 were another 2 great years at El Capote. As the 2009 season approaches here's a look back at some of the memories that we've made. I look forward to the 2009/10 season and sitting around the campfire telling stories and spending time with family. We should all be thankful for what he have as a family and what we've accomplished having El Capote and Primos Fishing Cabin. These places have brought our family closer and we all always look forward to spending time at these places.

2006 Deer Season is almost here!!!
Tuesday, October 24, 2006
Just want to say to my family that I cannot wait for the new season to start and for all of us to have a great and safe hunting season. I'm sure all of us cannot wait for the campfire sessions and all the great (fattening) meals around the dinner table. It's just around the corner and there's plenty to be excited about!

Al - His FIRST Turkey! (4-1-06)
Monday, April 03, 2006
Cousin Al killed his first turkey on Ron's 50 acres. The turkey was a jake and was called in by Al and Tio Fito. It was killed in the creekbed at about 5 in the afternoon. Al and Tio Fito were sitting together and Tio Fito was facing the opposite direction so while he was there the entire time he saw nothing until after the kill. The jake went directly to Al's decoy and started strutting his stuff and was immediately killed for doing so. Congrats to Tio Eddie and Al on their first kills.

Tio Eddie - His FIRST Turkey! (4-1-06)
Tio Eddie killed his first Rio Grande Gobbler Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2006. It was a mature gobbler with a seven inch beard and one inch spurs. Tio Eddie and Tio Pepe were hunting together from Tio Pepe’s favorite area by the road in front of his deer blind. Tio Eddie got this gobbler after missing one maybe 30 minutes earlier. Both gobblers were called in from behind the high fence. Both flew over the fence and strutted to the decoys. Tio Eddie’s reason for missing the first one was “I got too nervous”.

Recent big hogs from El Capote!
Wednesday, February 08, 2006

These are two hogs taken Sunday February 5th at the ranch. One was shot by Ron at the gate by his blind. After being shot the hog got up and ran where cousin Al finished it off. The first kill was at approximately 7:30am and weighed 120lbs. The second hog was killed at the fence crossing between Tio Sams blind and the hill. The kill was at approximately 8:45am and weighed in at 150lbs. Congrats to Ron and for killing 1 1/2 hogs and to Al for killing 1/2 a hog.

Tio Eddie & Tio Sam - Pigs (4-1-05)

Tio Sammy shot the small pig at 6:30 pm with his .22 Hornet rifel. The 20 lb. pig was under Tio Ron's feeder. Tio Sammy and Tio Eddie were hunting from the tripods. Driving back to the cabin at approximately 8:00 pm Tio Eddie shot the 75 lb. pig from the back of the truck. The pig was on the road in front of Tio Pepe's blind.

Tio Sam - Piglets (3-4-05)
Tio Sam shot these two piglets Friday, March 4, 2005 at 6:46 pm from the tripods located by Tio Ron's feeder. He shot at a group of about ten hogs and got 'em both with one shot. He used the .22 Hornet rifle. He was accompanied by Tio Eddie who verified the story. Tio Sam and Tio Eddie cooked on for Saturday evening supper. Like Tio Fito said, "Finger licking good."
