A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Cousin Al for the only kill at El Capote Ranch on opening weekend 2011. Although a few Axis deer have been seen on the ranch through the years, this is the first ever Axis kill on El Capote Ranch!
Turkey season at El Capote was great this year. Tio Fito, Tio Sammy, Tio Eddie and Cousin Al showed up for the weekend. Everyone went out opening morning and heard plenty of gobblers but no one was able to call anything in. It was a beautiful morning regardless. In the afternoon Tio Fito and Tio Eddie stayed back at camp to drink and get dinner bbq'd while Sammy and Al setup right off the road to see if they could call in a gobbler. After lots of calling 2 gobblers walked up behind them only to be spooked off and they left out of sight. They almost decided to give up and head back to camp when Tio Sammy's expert calling skills called in 2 gobblers which Al shot as soon as they walked into range. It was definitely an exciting hunt to remember! The next morning no one was able to get anything but a good time was had by all as always. Till next time.
The 2010-2011 season came to a close recently with Tio Fito and Al at El Capote. We showed up on Saturday around lunch time. We hunted Saturday afternoon with no deer being seen but Al took a 100lb hog from Ron's blind close to dark. Sunday morning was slow with only 2 doe being seen from Tio Pepe's but no opportunity for a shot. All in all we had another great season and look forward to next season. Till then.
Opening weekend was great at El Capote Ranch. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time as always. This year we had Tio Pepe, Tio Sammy, Tio Fito, Cousin Ron and Cousin Al at the ranch. Friday night Ron made some awesome chicken enchiladas, rice and beans. Everyone relaxed and enjoyed the evening and the campfire while we waited for the morning to come. Saturday morning lots of deer and turkey were seen moving. It seems were seeing more wildlife that we have in a long time. Saturday afternoon was no different lots of movement was seen. Tio Eddie shot a nice 7 ptr. from the hill blind and Cousin Al shot a spike from Tio Fito's blind. It was very exciting and was a perfect afternoon. Back at camp Tio Sammy and Tio Fito were preparing a roasted wild pig. This was a fantastic meal. Sunday morning everyone went out and Ron was able to take a roughly 120lb hog from his blind. He also saw a very nice 9 ptr. but did not get a shot so hopefully we'll see him soon. Ron and Al left Sunday but the Tios stayed through Monday. We had a great time and we're thankful we have this wonderful place.
Bow hunting weekend at El Capote was awesome. Nice weather and we definately saw animals. Tio Fito, Tio Sammy, Tio Pepe and Cousin Al were there to give it their best shot. There were two arrows fired and two misses both from Al and Tio Sammy. Tio Sammy hunted the ground blind by Tio Pepe's feeder and Al hunted the tripod by Ron's feeder. Tio Sammy shot a 6 ptr. and Al at a spike. Lots of fun was had and we look forward to a great season at El Capote. Included is work pictures of things we've been doing to get the feeders and cabin updated and looking good.
